Clang! Clang! Clang!
The sound of a metal hammer striking hot iron echoes through the dimly lit shop. Heat from the forge is intense. The trusty anvil stands firm. A sweltering mix of fire, sweat and glowing iron fills your nose as come in from the windy street.
My grandfather was a Blacksmith. Yes, a Blacksmith.
Not too many years ago, he earned his living that way in Kalamazoo, Michigan. His customers would visit his shop and place orders for useful things of all kinds - from handmade tools to custom furniture.
He was a creator.
My other grandfather, after serving at sea in WWII, returned home to become a successful businessman in western Michigan. While raising his family, he quickly moved up through the ranks at a large American healthcare company.
He was a leader. He had a sharp mind and a strong work ethic.
Me? I'm lucky to share some of their gifts.
While I don't shape hot metal or navigate the ocean, I do help to shape ideas into reality and navigate challenges faced by small business owners and managers.
